Valeo today announced Wednesday that it has entered into strategic cooperation with Apollo, the open autonomous driving platform created by Baidu, China's largest Internet search provider.

Launched in April 2017, Apollo accelerates the development, testing and deployment of autonomous vehicles through a collaborative approach with automakers and tech industry partners.

Based in France, Valeo is one of the largest global automotive part suppliers. The company will contribute its expertise in automotive sensors, including cameras, radars, ultrasonic sensors and cleaning systems to Apollo partners.

Valeo is already established in this sector. Valeo's Wiper Systems Product Group develops technologies which clean windshields, rear windows and optical sensors to offer autonomous cars excellent visibility.

Valeo will contribute its skills in sensor cleaning systems (which are key to optimal sensor functioning), connectivity between autonomous vehicles, known as vehicle to vehicle (V2V) and control and optimization of passenger air quality systems for the vehicle's interior.

Baidu's Apollo platform is a comprehensive, open autonomous driving ecosystem. Baidu's industry partners contribute expertise in each of their respective fields. Apollo partners include Daimler, BYD, Ford, Intel and Nvidia.

Apollo open platform accelerates the development, testing, and deployment of autonomous vehicles. As participation grows, more accumulated data becomes available. Compared to a closed ecosystem, Apollo can evolve faster.

Valeo will also benefit from the full range of software, hardware and data tools (operating systems, high-precision positioning and HD mapping services, simulation engines, cloud, algorithms, etc.) provided by Apollo to its ecosystem partners through its open, reliable and secure platform.
