Audi Debuts Ultra-fast All-Electric Supercar in Monterey California
【Summary】Last week, at Pebble Beach Automotive Week in Monterey, California, Audi revealed it’s all-electric PB18 e-tron. From a standstill, the supercar is capable of reaching 60 mph in just two seconds. It also has a driving range of over 300 miles on a single charge.
At Pebble Beach Automotive Week, Audi revealed an electric concept that puts most gas-powered supercars to shame. Dubbed the PB18 e-tron, the four-wheeled absurdity boasts a 0 to 60 mph sprint time of just two seconds, along with a driving range of over 300 miles per charge.
There's no denying the PB18 e-tron is all Audi. To the untrained eye, the concept car looks a lot like a next-generation R8. In true supercar fashion, it sports a mid-engine layout with a center of gravity between the seats and rear axle. The body measures 4.53 meters long, 2 meters wide and 1.15 meters tall, and is made from a mix of aluminum, carbon and composites. Every inch of the exterior is optimized for maximum air flow.
Key design elements include 22-inch wheels tucked inside massive wheel arches along with laser high-beam headlights. And, of course, Audi's signature single-frame grille sits prominently up front. Inside, the driver-centric cockpit is fully programmable, allowing for a transition between different layouts for the racetrack or road.
What really sets the PB18 e-tron apart from other fanciful prototypes is its powertrain. Three electric motors are used: one in the front and two out back. Output is 150 kW to the front axle and 350 kW to the rear, for a total yield of 500 kW and 612.2 lb.-ft. To evenly distribute that power, Audi uses what it refers to as a Torque Control Manager, which works together with the Electronic Stabilization Control.
As for the battery, it's a liquid-cooled solid-state unit with an energy capacity of 95 kWh.This layout gives the hypercar a range of over 300 miles, as was mentioned earlier. It also allows for a full recharge in under 15 minutes on an 800-volt connection. Cordlessly, mind you – the PB18 e-tron gets its electrons via induction from Audi Wireless Charging (AWC).

Sorry, you won't be able to buy a PB18 e-tron at your local dealer. The car is part of a statement Audi wants to make about its dedication to electric vehicles and other advanced technologies. For awaihle now, the German automaker has been diligently rolling out electric and autonomous concept cars, such as the self-driving, electrified Aicon. Now, the PB18 e-tron can be added to the list of drool-worthy prototypes consumers will never get to drive.
