Urus Hybrid to Outpower Ferrari's Purosangue

The car industry is experiencing a wave of electrification, and Lamborghini is not immune to this trend. In response to the demand for hybrid power, Lamborghini plans to introduce new hybrid models, ensuring that by 2024, hybrid engines will be available across their entire range, including the Urus SUV.

Recent spy shots indicate that development is well underway for a new plug-in hybrid Urus. It is expected to share its powertrain with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid, which recently underwent a facelift. When launched next year, the Urus PHEV is projected to offer an impressive 730bhp, making it one of the most powerful SUVs on the market.

The presence of a high-voltage sticker on the prototype confirms its electrified nature. Although the camouflage hides most of the design changes, it is possible to discern new y-shaped horizontal grille slats and slimmer headlights.

To surpass the current 657bhp Urus Performante in terms of power and efficiency, the PHEV will utilize the 4-litre twin-turbo V8 powertrain from Porsche's Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid. With the addition of a 174bhp electric motor, the Cayenne achieves a combined output of 729bhp and 701lb ft of torque. It is expected that the Urus hybrid will at least match these figures.

This would position the Urus PHEV ahead of competitors such as the Range Rover Sport SV (626bhp), Aston Martin DBX707 (697bhp), and even the Ferrari Purosangue (715bhp). Additionally, the Lamborghini should be able to match or exceed the Cayenne's impressive 0-62mph time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 190mph.

The new Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid boasts an electric range of up to 45 miles, thanks to a 25.9kWh battery located under the boot floor. It is expected that the Urus PHEV will have a similar electric range. However, due to the additional weight of the electric hardware, the Urus PHEV may weigh around 2.5 tons.
