Honda Civic Type R-GT Concept previews new Super GT500 racer for 2024 season - replaces NSX-GT
【Summary】Honda has unveiled the Honda Civic Type R-GT Concept, a preview of their new Super GT500 racer for the 2024 season. The race car, which features a bespoke carbon monocoque chassis and rear-wheel drive layout, will replace the NSX-GT in the GT500 category of the Super GT championship. It will be powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four engine and is expected to produce up to 650 hp.
The Honda Civic Type R-GT Concept is a race car that was first unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January and was recently showcased at the Japan Mobility Show. It serves as a preview for Honda's replacement for the NSX-GT in the GT500 category of the Super GT championship.
While it may bear some resemblance to the FL5 Civic Type R, the GT500 racer has little in common with the road-going production version. It adheres to Super GT regulations with its bespoke carbon monocoque chassis and rear-wheel drive layout.
Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) has confirmed that the race car will be equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, capable of producing up to 650 horsepower, as is typical for the GT500 class. Cars in this category are also allowed to have more aerodynamic features compared to the GT300.
The final version of the race car, known as the Civic Type R-GT, has already completed its first shakedown test in July. The provisional calendar for the 2024 Super GT season was announced in August, with the first race scheduled to take place in April at the Okayama International Circuit.
