Volvo EM90: Upcoming Model Details
【Summary】The new Volvo EM90 is a boxy design with a city-inspired grille and Thor's Hammer headlights. The focus is on passenger comfort with individual seats, control over settings, and luxurious features. The EM90 has a range of over 400 miles and is not currently planned for sale in Europe. Volvo also has the EX30 and EX90 SUVs coming soon.
The new pictures released by Volvo showcase a unique design for the EM90, featuring a boxy shape and a twinkly 'grille' inspired by cityscapes and skyscrapers commonly found in rapidly growing Chinese cities. The car's signature 'Thor's Hammer' headlights and tall, slender tail lights further emphasize its connection to urban environments. However, despite its cool appearance, the EM90 may not be available in the UK due to Volvo's focus on SUVs and crossovers.
Volvo has always aimed to position itself as a luxury brand, and the EM90 continues this trend by prioritizing passenger comfort. While the driver is well taken care of, the four individual seats in the rear cabin are the real focus. These seats boast 'zero gravity' padding for supreme comfort, and each occupant has control over heating, ventilation, and other settings to create their own personal space. The middle row seats can even recline and be equipped with massage features and other luxuries. Noise-cancelling technology, air suspension, and 'silent tires' contribute to a sense of tranquility. For entertainment or business purposes, a 15.6-inch screen can be unfolded from the roof, accompanied by a 21-speaker stereo system by Bowers & Wilkins, creating a 'private concert hall on the move'. The EM90 also offers various control options, including screens, voice commands, and 'smart surfaces'. The interior design aims to recreate the atmosphere of a Scandinavian living room, with sustainably sourced materials like recycled plastics and reclaimed woods.
Although not confirmed, it is likely that the EM90 shares technology with the EX90 luxury SUV, but with a focus on range rather than power and performance. The electric motor provides just under 150 horsepower, which is sufficient for smooth and refined city driving. The large battery offers a range of over 400 miles between charges, according to Chinese testing figures.
As of now, the EM90 is designed exclusively for the Chinese market, with no plans for release in Europe. However, if the sales of the Lexus LM350h, a similar luxury car, prove successful, Volvo may reconsider their original plans. Additionally, Volvo has other cars scheduled for release this year, including the smaller and more affordable EX30 electric vehicle, as well as the larger and more luxurious EX90 SUV with a European twist.
