Tesla is reportedly heavily discounting inventory Model S P90D's now that P100D is out
【Summary】Tesla is reportedly heavily discounting inventory Model S P90D’s now that P100D is out.

Now that Tesla claimed the ‘Quickest Production Car in the World' title by officially announcing the Model S P100D with the new 100 kWh battery pack, its Model S P90D is now old and useless. Not really. It's still one of the fastest 4-door sedan ever made and it's now reportedly a lot cheaper.
Surprisingly, you can still order a new custom P90D from Tesla's website, but the company is also reportedly heavily discounting the inventory Model S P90D's available.
Tesla sells what it calls "new inventory vehicles", not to be confused with certified pre-owned (CPO) cars. New inventory vehicles have never been owned by another customer and were simply used by Tesla as display vehicles or service loaners.
They generally have only a few hundred miles on them and rarely ever have over one thousand miles on the odometer. They are sold as new with a full warranty and the federal tax rebate is available.
They are discounted at about $1 per mile and a percentage for each month since production. Tesla is currently listing 22 Model S P90Ds on its website, but it's not always up-to-date and visiting your local store always gives you a better idea of inventory cars available.
With this said, the P90D cars listed on the website start at $112,300 and go up to $139,600. Ordering a new Model P90D costs exactly the same depending on the options, but the $10,000 ‘Ludicrous' battery upgrade is not available anymore on a new P90D (only P100D), while they are on most P90D's listed in new inventories.
It means that they are significantly discounted already, but we received reports from new buyers being offered even more significant discounts at Tesla's store – presumably because the vehicles are losing value as Tesla is starting production on a new top of the line model.
Tesla also often uses its top-of-line model for test drives at its stores. It would make sense for the automaker to move its P90D's in order to replace them with P100D's as soon as possible to spur P100D sales. Tesla CEO Elon Musk expects to sell as many as 200 per weeks for the next few months. It would help to get customers in the vehicles.
Some new buyers report having received a discount worth up ~$30,000 on the list price of the vehicle – again, the Model S P90D's with the Ludicrous battery upgrade appear to be the ones receiving the most generous discounts.
As we reported earlier today, Tesla is showing signs of moving away from the ‘no haggle' sales model even on new vehicles. If you find any other discount, let us know in the comment section below.
