Pininfarina Unveils 250mph Electric Hypercar in Pebble Beach
【Summary】Italian design house Automobili Pininfarina uncovers electric hypercar, codenamed PF0, for privileged collectors at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Nowhere in the world is there an auto show like the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Growing up in Monterey, I didn't have the funds to get into the actual event, but I was able to get a glimpse of the spectacular cars as they drove through town.
I can attest – only the most extravagant automobiles (and people) get past the velvet rope in Pebble Beach. So, it makes sense for Automobili Pininfarina to use the location as the stage for its grand unveiling. This week, the Italian design firm presented its luxury electric hypercar, codenamed PF0, at the over-the-top event. Only well-funded prospective clients were invited to the screening.
Michael Perschke, Automobili Pininfarina CEO, said: "Numerous design icons from Pininfarina's incredible history have won awards at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, so I am excited to present a future Pininfarina classic to prospective owners in close proximity to this famous event."

"Our presence in Monterey is an inspiring chapter in the story of realizing Battista Farina's long-held dream: one day there will be beautiful cars solely branded Pininfarina. These special VIP previews mean that future PF0 owners, most of whom will undoubtedly own numerous modern and historic classics, have an opportunity right now to be part of the birth of the company and their hypercar."
Automobili Pininfarina claims the PF0 will be efficient, powerful – and of course – drop-dead gorgeous. According to the firm, the car will reach 62 mph in just two seconds and top out at 250 mph. Plus, it will have an all-electric range of 300 miles.
Naturally, the body will be made of carbon fiber. Renderings of the machine's physique were revealed in July of this year.
Of the wind-swept concept, design director, Luca Borgogno said, "Pininfarina has an unprecedented heritage of delivering cars that are both beautiful to look at and technically innovative. Creating this combination in the first Pininfarina-branded road car is a dream come true."
A few affluent collectors were able to view the PF0 this week, at the Concours. But so far, Pininfarina has only provided the public with select depictions of the car's the interior. An online press release shows pixelated images of a futuristic cockpit – just enough to spark the imagination.
The Automobili Pininfarina PF0 will make its official debut at the Geneva International Motor Show in 2019. Only 150 of the hypercars will be produced worldwide when sales begin in 2020. So, if you're a billionaire car enthusiast, make sure to put get on the list early.
