StradVision is Pitching its Advanced Vision Perception Technology to German Automakers at ‘Startup Autobahn'

StradVision is Pitching its Advanced Vision Perception Technology to German Automakers at ‘Startup Autobahn'

Each year, innovative companies developing advanced technologies for the auto industry are selected to pitch their products to top German automakers at "Startup Autobahn", an innovation platform that allows promising startups to present their automotive technology products directly to Germany's top automakers.

Among this year's companies is South Korean-based company StradVision. The company announced it was among the finalists invited to present its technology to automotive industry leaders at "Startup Autobahn Selection Day." The event takes place on February 25 in Stuttgart, Germany.

StradVision, which also has an office in Silicon Valley, is developing advanced vision processing technology using deep-learning software that allows Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in autonomous vehicles to achieve the highest level of perception capability. 

The company was founded in 2014.

StradVision's CEO, Junhwan Kim, will present the company's deep-learning perception technology to leaders of the German auto industry and explain how the company's SVNet will benefit the German automakers.

StradVision's camera-based technologies are built upon its SVNet Deep Learning-based software, which enables a high-level of perception from autonomous vehicle cameras for safety features such as lane detection, traffic light & sign detection/recognition and pedestrian detection.

SVNet utilizes Deep Neural Network(DNN) and Artificial Intelligence(AI) technologies to detect objects, pedestrians, and other vehicles in real-time, to improve vehicle safety. It can be used for autonomous vehicles or one operated by a human driver.

StradVision's SVNet also prevents collisions by detecting lanes, abrupt lane changes and vehicle speeds, even in poor lighting and weather conditions. The company's camera perception software is also a critical component of advanced driver assist systems (ADAS) including Automatic Emergency Braking (SEB) and Blind-Spot Detection (BSD). 

StradVision's ‘SVNet Solution' was selected as one of the Top 5 Korean Products of CES 2020 in January.

The 100-day scouting phase of Startup Autobahn begins with a global screening of more than 1,000 promising startups. The Selection Day next week marks the end of the 100-day scouting phase, where around 50 remaining startups, including StradVision, are offered the oppourtunity to present themselves to automakers. 

Startup Autobahn will narrow the field down to 30 of the most promising startups. Companies selected will be offered partnerships for developing pilot projects that showcase their vehicle technology.

"With our deep-learning approach, new technologies are being developed by StradVision at a rapid pace to ensure the effectiveness of these advanced safety systems." the company wrote in a statement.

When paired with commercial automotive-grade Systems on Chip (SoCs), StradVision's SVNet's AI-based Deep Neural Network can run in real-time with minimum latency and low power consumption. SVNet allows for proper real-world detection, tracking, segmentation and classification, and will be implemented in multiple production projects throughout 2020.

The Startup Autobahn platform was founded in 2016 by Daimler AG and continues to grow. It brings together creative startups with experts from established industrial companies. Together with its various industry partners, the goal of Startup Autobahn is to tap into the startup sector to promote technologies from other industries for use in the the growing mobility sector.

Startup Autobahn works in cooperation with the research factory Active Research Environment for the Next generation of Automobiles ( ARENA2036). The number 2036 in the name commemorates the 150th anniversary of the automobile. Also participating is the University of Stuttgart and the startup accelerator Plug & Play. 

Mapping company "what3words" was chosen at Startup Autobahn in 2018. The company's 3-word address system was chosen for the new infotainment system "Mercedes-Benz User Experience" (MBUX), which first went into series production in the new Mercedes Benz A-Class sedan.

In addition to providing startups with a platform to pitch their products to the auto industry, Startup Autobahn mediates between small startups and large global corporations. The aim is to find out which companies and startups can partner on new projects or investments in the auto industry.

In December 2019, StradVision announced it raised $27 million in a Series B funding round to advance its camera-based perception technology. The round was led by Posco Capital, with participation from IDG Capital and Industrial Bank of Korea. The company's total funding to date is $40 million.
