Tesla's Latest Software Update Unlocks New Features and Functions

Tesla's latest software update is here and it comes with some new functions related to charging characteristics of EV battery packs and Powerwall usage. The new software version 2020.32.1, is available as an over-the-air update for some Tesla models. It unlocks several new features, including but not limited to, customizable air suspension settings.
Here's what you need to know.
Tesla's New Powerwall Coordination Feature
Tesla owners who have a Powerwall energy storage unit installed at home can now use this feature, which allows their vehicle to interact with the Powerwall unit continuously, without surpassing the energy capacity of the battery storage unit. This enables a Tesla vehicle to use the energy stored in the Powerwall to recharge the battery pack as needed.
In the event of a power outage, the Powerwall coordination feature will stop charging the car and instead redirect the stored energy to power the home. Tesla owners can also define the energy requirements of their home and their EV by customizing the settings via the Tesla owners app.
Users can also select an option to allow continuous recharging of their vehicle's battery pack during a power outage, as long as the energy levels of Powerwall stay over the predefined limit.
In case of an electrical failure, the Powerwall can also coordinate with Tesla solar panels and recharge the EV's battery pack.
All-new Suspension Settings
Earlier this year, Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk took to Twitter to announce that the company's highly anticipated Cybertruck will come with active suspensions damping and ride height adjustment. Now the mercurial CEO has followed through on his promise.
A new update allows Tesla drivers to modify suspension settings in real-time, which customers can monitor thanks to a new onscreen visualization feature that can be accessed by tapping on the "Show Suspension Data" menu option.
Tesla drivers can also manipulate the damping of each wheel to best suit the current terrain conditions. In addition to the AUTO, COMFORT, and SPORT options, the active suspension damping now comes with a new ADVANCED mode, which allows the driver to regulate the car's handling characteristics and ride comfort.
Tesla has also streamlined the suspension control logic by making it more accommodating of permanent and temporary ride height adjustments. This means that a Tesla vehicle with the feature activated will automatically lower itself after covering a certain distance as long as the ride height was adjusted manually and was set to High or Very High.
The driver can also choose to retain the raised ride height by tapping on "KEEP." Once selected, the vehicle will maintain its stance until the maximum permissible speed is achieved.
The update also comes with an "Always Auto Raise at this Location" feature, which automatically raises the height of the vehicle when it's entering a predefined area or location. For example, a driver might select this option for an area that has speed bumps.
The software update also allows a Tesla vehicle to send a "Car Left Open" notification to the driver in case the trunk, frunk, windows, or any of the doors of the car remain unlocked for more than 10 minutes. Customers will have the option of turning off notifications for certain locations, like home or office.
For now, the updates are limited to Model X variants and the Model S equipped with Tesla's Raven Powertrain. Although it's expected that the Plaid versions of the Model S and X will receive these features in the near future.
