California luxury electric vehicle startup Lucid Motors today announced the official name of its entry-level Lucid Air model—the Lucid Air Pure. The electric sedan will be the lowest priced model from Lucid Motors. The company announced that the Air Pure will start at $69,900 after the $7,500 federal EV tax credit.
Lucid Motors has officially opened reservations for the Air Pure on its website and interested customers can reserve one for just $300. The Air Pure is expected to be available in early 2022.
The Air Pure joins the rest of the Lucid Air lineup, which now includes the top-of-the line limited production Dream Edition launching in the spring of 2021, the Air Grand Touring and the Air Touring both of which will be available in the second half of 2021.
Lucid Motors has officially revealed its Lucid Air high-performance sedan in a global web broadcast from the company's headquarters in Newark, California on Sept 9. Lucid says its ultra-luxurious Air sedan is the "world's most advanced electric car" and it will define Lucid as a company going forward.
All versions of the Air sedan offer technologically advanced electric powertrains and battery designs with an ultra luxurious interior space for passengers. The Lucid Air will rival the likes of the Tesla Model S Performance and Porsche Taycan.
The Air Pure will be built on a flat skateboard platform, which frees up additional space for the cabin. The company calls its skateboard EV platform "LEAP" (Lucid Electric Advanced Platform) and represents Lucid's philosophy of combining high-performance and luxury in an electric car.
The Lucid Air Pure delivers 408 horsepower from its electric powertrain and is also being touted as one of the longest range EVs for sale globally, with a projected range of 406 miles on a single charge.
The standard version of the Air Pure offers only a rear-wheel-drive setup, but customers upgrade to the Air Touring, which comes with a 602 horsepower all-wheel-drive configuration. The Air touring costs $87,500 after the federal EV tax credit of $7,500.
Customers interested in the Air Pure can now visit Lucid's "Design Yours Configurator" on the company's website to configure and customize any of the four Lucid Air sedan models.
Lucid's Design Yours Configurator leverages the cloud and ray-tracing technology so interested buyers can get a realistic look of the Lucid Air sedan models both inside and out, including interior materials and color choices.
The Air Pure offers a wide range of color options and a choice of 19" Aero Range or 20" Aero Lite wheels.
In early October, Lucid Motors announced the opening of its first "Lucid Studio" and service center in Beverly Hills, California. The Lucid Motors Design Studios will support the company's direct to customer sales strategy.
Like its rival Tesla, Lucid Motors will not have a traditional network of dealerships, so the spaces will serve as in-person design centers for the Air sedan, where customers can go to see the car up close and select from the various vehicle options, as well as place their order. Customers will also be able to speak with Lucid representatives to learn more about the Lucid Air.
The Beverly Hills Studio & service center was the company's second retail location, the first to open is at Lucid's Newark, California headquarters.
The Beverly Hills Lucid Studio is one of 20 set to open throughout North America by the end of 2021. The newest Lucid Studio opened on Nov 5 in San Jose, California.
The Air sedan will be built at the Lucid Motors factory in Casa Grande, Arizona, which is nearing completion. The Air sedan's battery cells will be supplied by South Korean battery maker LG Chem.
