Toyota Increases the Range of its bZ4X Electric Crossover Ahead of its European Launch This Summer
【Summary】Toyota's new bZ4X electric crossover is all-set for its European launch this summer. The electric crossover gets improved range with prices starting at £41,950 ($54,864) in the UK. Toyota will offer bZ4X in 2 variants, including both single motor and dual motor setups. A 71.4 kWh battery pack will power both all-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive versions for the European market.
Japan's Toyota Motor Corp revealed the US-spec bZ4X electric SUV late last year. The automaker was one of the last legacy automakers to enter the electric-only segment with its new electric crossover.
Now the automaker announced that its highly anticipated bZ4X electric crossover is ready for its European launch later this summer.
It marks a significant milestone for Toyota, as the bZ4X also marks the launch of Toyota's "beyond zero" electric sub-brand.
The bZ4X is being built on Toyota's TNGA electric vehicle architecture.
Toyota will offer bZ4X in 2 variants, including both single motor and dual motor setups. A 71.4 kWh battery pack will power both all-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive versions for the European market.
For the U.S. version, the bZ4X gets a slightly larger 72.8 kWh battery pack. The front-wheel-drive version of the bZ4X will deliver 321 miles of range, while range for the dual-motor variants has been increased to 292 miles.
We expect that the base, rear-wheel-drive version of the U.S.-bound bZ4X will deliver up to 250 miles of driving range on a full charge.
A 150 kWh electric motor allows the front-wheel-drive version of the Toyota bZ4X to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 8.4 seconds. The all-wheel-drive variant of the upcoming electric crossover is powered by a 160 kW electric motor, which allows the EV to hit 62 mph in just 7.7 seconds.
The front-wheel-drive version has an efficiency rating of 14.3 kWh/62 miles, while the dual-motor version is rated at around 15.8 kWh/62 miles. It's worth noting that these figures may vary depending on variant specifications in different markets.
Furthermore, Toyota claims that thanks to its advanced cell technology, the battery pack of the bZ4X electric crossover will offer roughly 90% of its original capacity, even after ten years of use.
Toyota has always been about reliability, which is why the brand has many loyal customers. The automaker will provide an extended warranty for the battery packs, guaranteeing that bZ4X's battery will retain 70% capacity even after it reaches 620,000 miles on the odometer.
At first, Toyota will offer the all-new bZ4X with a 6.6-kilowatt charger. Starting in Q4 2022, the company will upgrade it to a faster 11 kW charger.
Toyota also announced that it would continue to focus on developing hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
