Volkswagen’s new independent software unit CARIAD, which is creating and operating system and architecture for the automaker’s future software-defined vehicles, will soon begin the joint development of an automotive system-on-chip (SoC) chip together with semiconductor company STMicroelectronics. The SoC will be specifically designed for vehicle connectivity, energy management, and over-the-air software updates.
