Electric vehicle battery manufacturer LG Chem announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the state of Tennessee to establish a new cathode manufacturing facility for electric vehicle (EV) batteries in the city of Clarksville. The new plant will be the largest of its kind in the U.S. and will produce enough cathode materials to power 1.2 million EVs once fully operational.

South Korean battery maker SK Innovation is vowing to return to producing electric vehicle batteries in the U.S. after being hit with a 10-year import ban by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) over the theft of trade secrets from rival LG Energy Solutions (LG Chem). LG Chem filed its trade complaints against SK Innovation in 2019 and sought to block SK from producing battery cells in the United States as well as importing the components necessary to make battery cells.
